We’re now in to the seventh week of the Premier League, and we’ve already experienced an unbelievable amount of drama, and, as the Premier League table starts to shape, the pressure is really on the managers to impress the fans, and more importantly the board.
Newcastle United have had the biggest managerial problems so far this season, with Kevin Keegan’s surprise exit providing a host of problems for the club, as well as the rioting fans. Mike Ashley, the owner, has decided to sell the club, and this week there has been some interest from some unidentified Nigerian buyers. Tottenham Hotspur manager Juande Ramos is also under pressure due to his side being at the bottom of the table with just two points, although he seems certain that he will stay manager of the London side.
Despite some club’s managerial problems, the Premier League still went on as normal, with some brilliant football matches being played this weekend, including a brilliant Merseyside derby between Liverpool and Everton. The game always looked likely to be Liverpool’s, but as they missed chance after chance a draw seemed as if it was approaching, but Spanish striker Fernando Torres once again saved Liverpool with two breath taking goals, giving the travelling side the three points. There was a shock at the Emirates Stadium where Arsenal played Hull. Arsenal went one goal ahead, but two brilliant goals, including a contender for ‘goal of the season’ from Geovanni, ensured that Hull took the win, much to everyone’s surprise.
In other games, Chelsea beat Stoke City, Premier League newcomers West Brom beat Middlesborough, Manchester United beat Gary Megson’s Bolton side, and Portsmouth beat Tottenham by two goals to nil. This week’s results included no draws, with Wigan, Aston Villa, West Ham and Blackburn all winning by two goals to one against Manchester City, Sunderland, Fulham and Newcastle respectively.
